SkillsUSA

SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization that serves students preparing for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations, including health occupations and related fields. Founded in 1965, SkillsUSA focuses on developing leadership, workplace, and technical skills through competitions, training programs, and community service. It partners with educators, industry leaders, and government agencies to ensure students are career-ready and equipped with the skills needed for success in the modern workforce. The organization emphasizes personal growth, responsibility, and professional development for its members, helping them transition smoothly into skilled employment or further education.

Students pay $25 dollars to joins SkillsUSA.  This enables them to participate in the competitions held during the school year and earn a honor cord to wear at graduations.

SkillsUSA competitions start at the district level, where students showcase their technical and leadership skills in various career-related contests. Winners advance to the state competitions, which are larger and more competitive, drawing top talent from across the state. The best competitors at the state level then move on to the national championships, where they compete against peers from all over the country for recognition, scholarships, and career opportunities. These competitions help students demonstrate their skills, build confidence, and prepare for the workforce.

To earn a honor cord students must be a paid member, participate in at least one competition, participate in the school fundraiser, and participate in one of the community service programs hosted by Lewis & Clark Career Center. The student must also earn a certificate of completion in their program.
